Himachal Pradesh Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister GS Bali informed the state assembly that around 40 new gas agencies would be allotted to the far flung areas of the state under Rajiv Gandhi Yojana of the central government.
The agencies would make LPG gas readily available in the rural areas at lower price. It is learnt that in far-flung areas people are forced to bear the heavy cost of LPG.
People in these areas are reportedly spending Rs 1,200 for a single subsidies cylinders as they have to carry it manually after covering long distance by road.
While the central government already allotted nine gas agencies to Himachal Pradesh, more LPG agencies of Indian Oil and others will be allotted in the state.
These agencies would be scattered in the far-flung areas in order to make it readily available to people and they would not be forced to bear extra cost for it on transport, the minister said.
