Southern metropolitan city Chennai is likely to get two massive foot over-bridges , one across EVR Periyar Salai and the other in T Nagar. The existing foot over-bridges in Chennai are used for just about everything but crossing the road. At least 27 of the 32 foot over-bridges in the city are in a state of disrepair and littered with trash. Only few pedestrians dare use them.
They are used, among other things as late night bars, props for billboards and informal night shelters. Dogs sleep on them and some industrious vendors have even set up tea shops under these structures. Not a single pedestrian was to be seen using the Perungudi foot over-bridge between 10.15am and 10.40am.
