All mines of Coal India Ltd have been re-graded following complaints from consumers, including power sector players, about the slippages in fuel grade, according to a top official.
“It is a deliberate policy to re-grade all the mines because I was getting a lot of complaints about grade slippages from consumers,” Coal Secretary told. “The minister was also getting a lot of complaints. We thought that it is good to have mines re-graded through a third party,” he added.
The re-grading of CIL mines was done this year by “engaging four independent scientific bodies” and the entire exercise was completed in two months, he said.
