CleanMax Solar has bagged the prestigious contract of powering the Chennai metro with clean solar power. The venture will involve the installation of rooftop and ground mounted solar PV plants at 12 Metro stations and the Koyambedu Maintenance depot in Chennai, providing low-cost and renewable solar energy for CMRLÂ’s operations. Once fully operational, the total capacity of rooftops and ground mounted power systems CMRLÂ’s facilities will be 6 MW, which will make it once of the largest onsite solar projects in India.
Chennai MetroÂ’s transition to sustainable energy is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emission by 7,438 tonne per annum and help save Rs 150 lakh per annum. The move is also in tandem with the Government of IndiaÂ’s vision of moving towards a sustainable nation via renewable energy by 2022.
