In Coimbatore, two new subways are being planned near Coimbatore main railway station and near Saibaba colony on NSR road to decongest the busy streets in the city. Tamil Nadu Highways Department will be in charge of building the pedestrian subway on State Bank Road near railway station while the corporation will execute the second subway near Saibaba colony.

Both projects are expected to be taken up and completed in the coming months claimed officials from the departments concerned. The announcement was made at a joint co-ordination meeting of officials from the highways department, city traffic police and Coimbatore corporation convened in Coimbatore at the corporation main office last week.

The city corporation has also mooted for a road along Sanganoor canal which if proved feasible could serve as an inner ring road connecting Mettupalayam Road, Avinashi Road and Trichy Road in the city.
