The Rs 2,000-crore container terminal at Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Katupalli port near Chennai is expected to go on stream soon.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa planned to inaugurate the terminal, which has been ready for operation for over five months. The inauguration was delayed because of lack of a few clearances, including Customs.
The terminal is already equipped with three quay cranes and seven rubber tyred gantry cranes, the source said.
The terminal is part of the larger Rs 4,300 crore project that also includes a ship building facility for the defence.
Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation is also a partner in this project, which is located adjacent to the Ennore port.
It is learnt that the ship building facility could be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at a later date.
