In Maharashtra, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has given an ultimatum to the contractors to complete the long-pending work of Empire Estate flyover. The work of the bridge started nearly two-and-half years ago but only 30 per cent of it has been completed so far.
The slow paced work of flyover at Chinchwad on old Pune Mumbai highway is causing a lot of inconvenience to local residents.
PCMCÂ’s engineering department officials said that PCMC had issued several notices to the contractors to speed up the work but there was no progress. Finally, an ultimatum has been given to the contractors to complete the work by August 2014 or the civic body will terminate the contract. The local residents are demanding that the construction work should complete before monsoon, as it will create more chaos during the season.
There are nearly 1,600 residents at the Empire Estate. There are nearly 1,600 flats and 200 shops, spreading across 27 acres of land. The flyover will connect Pavana river, Mumbai-Pune highway and auto cluster, Chinchwad will connect with this flyover. The flyover was funded by the World Bank. The flyover near Empire Estate on the old Pune-Mumbai highway is part of the 11.2 km Kalewadi to Dehu-Alandi BRTS corridor.
