Several contractors who had taken up work on the RCC internal roads of residential societies in Vadodara town have stopped work. Delayed payments due to pending results of inspection of the quality of roads is said to be the reason for the delay.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) had started work on internal roads being built under a contributory scheme wherein societies had to pay 20 per cent of the cost of roads while the rest was borne by the State government and VMC.
But the roads in several societies ended up being of inferior quality and a major controversy was raked up. Things have only worsened for residents of several societies as contractors have stopped work there and material is piled up. The contractors have cited lack of funds due to non-payment of sums for works done earlier as the reason.
VMC Executive Engineer PM Patel said that the civic body would release the bills as soon as the third party inspection reports were available.
