Dharamshala town which is home to spiritual leader Dalai Lama and known for its scenic cricket stadium will now be connected via the Dhauladhar Expressway and is set to receive Rs.360 crore from the Centre for development of the project. Dharamshala, the third most visited hill town in the state will be under the Dhauladhar tourist circuit. Annually, over 15 lakh tourists visit the town.

A large number of them are foreigners. At present the town acts as a base station for all tourists who visit the historical temples of Kangra, Chamunda, Jawalaji and other tourist places such as Palampur, Baijnath and Nurpur.

With the creation of this Expressway, halt period of tourists would increase and also connect people from far-off destinations to the town, said Urban Development Minister, Sudhir Sharma who also represents the Dharamshala assembly constituency.
