Exports through the Cochin Port declined 10 per cent in July while imports rose 11.75 per cent, according to Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s exports and imports statistics. July import of commodities, components and equipment through Cochin Port and Vallarpadam International Container Trans-shipment Terminal (ICTT) was 2.4 lakh tonne, compared to 2.1 lakh tonne in the previous-year month.

On a year-over-year basis, import of sulphur, phosphoric acid, minerals and metals, raw cashew and wood manufactures also showed growth. Total export for the month of July came down to 89,788 tonne from nearly 1 lakh tonne exported in July 2012, mainly driven by a decrease in the export of miscellaneous items.

Exports of seafood, spices and cashew were higher during the period, the data showed.
