Oil India awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) contract to Engineers India (EIL) for upgrading pump stations or terminal of the Naharkatiya-Barauni crude oil pipeline.

Oil India decided to upgrade the pumping stations or terminals to reduce operation and maintenance cost and increase the throughput of the system for accommodating the future-flow requirement of up to 8 million tonne.

Recently, both the firms signed agreement for the contract, the value of which is not known. The contract for the upgradation was signed by EIL Chairman and Managing Director AK Purwaha and OIL head SK Srivastava, a press release from EIL said. The scheduled mechanical completion of the project is 24 months.

Oil India originally commissioned the Naharkatiya-Barauni pipeline in 1962 and the pipeline spans over a total length of 1,157-kilometer (from Naharkatiya to Bongaigaon and Barauni to Bongaigaon) with 9 pumping stations and a capacity of 7 million tonne per annum (mn tpa).

The project also aims to increase reliability and the life of the pump stations while ensuring compliance of safety and environmental norms.

EIL is a leading EPC and total solutions consultancy organisation and has to its credit over 5,000 assignments including over 400 major projects successfully completed and operational in India and abroad.
