The Minister of State (I/C) in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan said that in the Budget 2014-15 it is proposed to accelerate production and exploitation of coal bed methane (CBM) reserves. He said that the possibility of using modern technology to revive old or closed wells will also be explored to maximise production from such fields. The government has awarded 33 blocks for exploration and exploitation of CBM under the four bidding rounds launched so far.
