Several firms have responded to the request for qualification (RfQ) sought by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) for the Rs 8,000 crore fourth container terminal project.

The port authority would soon conduct a pre-bid meeting for the project, after which the number of actual bidders would be known.

Among the firms responded to the RfQ are DP World, Dubai, APM Terminals, Adani Group. It may be recalled that DP World, Dubai, and APM Terminals are both existing terminal operators at JN Port.

Remarkably, Singapore-based port operator PSA International, which backed out of the project after winning the contract in a global tender last year, has shown interest in bidding for the project, reports indicate.

A PSA-led consortium, which secured the contract last year failed to sign concession agreement within the extended deadline. This prompted JNPT to terminate the contract in September 2012.

The Singapore Government-owned port company did not give any reason for pulling out of the project, which it won after agreeing to share 51 per cent of the revenues with the port.

As long as PSA is not blacklisted, it would be allowed to bid again, union shipping Minister GK Vasan has reportedly said earlier.
