Global companies including GE, AES and Marubeni Corporation and Indian corporations, including Tata, Jindals, RPower, and L&T have evinced interest in setting up three gas-based power stations in Karnataka with a total capacity of 2,100 MW. These plants would come up at Davanagere, Belgaum and Gadag. Nearly 52 companies have shown interest in these projects being planned along the route of the proposed Dabhol-Bidadi gas pipeline.

In addition, about 90 private players have shown interest in taking up gas-based merchant power plants ranging from 50-300 MW. All these projects cumulatively would require an investment of around Rs 12,000 crore.
