In Uttarakhand, the State Planning Commission has proposed 99 km of all-weather roads with as many as 14 tunnels that would reduce distance and save precious time for travelers. In the state, the Himalayas are bleeding after the last June flash floods, which killed many and washed away properties.
The floods were so severe in the Garhwal region that they left most of the roads battered and bruised.
As per the new plan, the total cost of the tunnel project will be Rs 18,791.5 crore, says Harshpati Unniyal, adviser to the State Planning Commission.
