Fresh mining of iron ore has been banned in Goa by the new mineral policy in the state. The Goa Mineral Policy was notified on September 28. The ban is expected to be in force till an expert panel determines the optimum level of fresh mining that can be undertaken in this mineral rich coastal state. The Policy mentions that it would take three months for the study to complete, after which the level of fresh mining can be decided.
