Spanning 30 acres, the centre will feature cuttingedge labs and pilotscale facilities to accelerate the transition from research to field deployment.

India’s leading natural gas company, GAIL India Ltd, carried out the groundbreaking ceremony for its upcoming research and development centre in the Industrial Model Township at Sohna in Haryana on Thursday. The new R&D Centre is envisioned as a state‑of‑the‑art, future‑ready innovation hub that will strengthen GAIL’s technological capabilities across its core business and emerging clean energy domains.

Spread over 30 acres, the centre will feature world‑class laboratory infrastructure and advanced pilot‑scale facilities to bridge the gap between laboratory research and field deployment. Sandeep Kumar Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, presided over the ceremony in the presence of Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director, Business Development, and senior officials of GAIL.

The facility will house seven major research verticals, including natural gas pipeline integrity and asset management, natural gas applications and natural gas/carbon dioxide (NG/CO₂) valorisation, petrochemicals and polymers, renewables, biotechnology, nanotechnology and advanced analytical sciences.

In addition, the centre will be equipped with sophisticated pilot facilities, such as closed‑loop pipeline testing systems, linear pull‑through rigs, and pilot reactors for polymer development and NG/CO₂ valorisation. These facilities will enable validation of new processes, materials, pipeline technologies, and sustainable energy solutions under industry‑relevant conditions.

The R&D Centre is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening indigenous technology development, fostering collaboration with academia and startups, and supporting India’s energy transition journey.
