The Inland Container Depot (ICD) of Gateway Distriparks at Faridabad may commence operations in first quarter of 2013-14.
This will add volumes to the rail business of the company in future. In addition, the company is expanding its presence in the cold chain business. It plans to increase its pallet capacity in the cold chain business by 40 percent by the end of 2013-14.
Gateway Distriparks may benefit from the commencement of ICD at Faridabad at it comes at a time when the slowdown in the economy has impacted its Container Freight Stations (CFS) business.
The company operates in three business segments – CFS, rail and cold chain. Over the last nine months, slowdown in the economy has resulted in flattish growth in port volumes.
Subsequently, CFS operators have reported a subdued earnings. CFS is a set up where export oriented cargo is loaded or unloaded into containers.
However, the rail freight business of the company remains strong on the back of new route additions.
