In Hyderabad, Rs 870 crore civic projects have been proposed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). GHMC had bagged the projects under the phase-I (2005-2012) of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The State-level committee on JNNURM works cleared the proposals for these projects recently and the project proposals would be sending to the Union Ministry for Urban Development soon.
The projects are expected to be completed in three years once the Centre gives its clearance. The Corporation’s works proposed under the transition phase include construction of a flyover at Tolichowki, solid waste management, rail under bridge (RUB) at Uttamnagar, remodelling of nalas, laying of link road from Raj Bhavan to Begumpet, widening of roads like Yellammabanda road, Botanical Garden Road and development of JNTU (Kukatpally)-Mind Space road.
Of these projects, GHMC had earlier proposed funding for solid waste management (SWM), being taken up by Ramky, under phase-I but it was not taken up as the detailed project reports (DPR) got delayed. The JNNURM scheme was launched by the Union government in 2005, mainly to improve infrastructure in cities.
