In the past three decades, the pre-engineered building system (PEB) witnessed a growth pattern parallel to the overall economic infrastructure of the country. A European technology, brought by middle-eastern companies to India, envisaged the market potential of PEBs in India. The major challenge for adopting the PEB system in India then was changing the mindset from the legacy of concrete and stone structures of the British era.
Zamil in India
Zamil Steel Building Company, a sector business of Zamil Industrial Investment Co (Zamil Industrial), a premier business group engaged in the development of innovative design and engineering solutions for use in the construction industry, had stepped into India with their first investment in 2008 with a manufacturing plant in Pune.
Although Zamil Steel had entered the Indian market in the 90s by importing the finished products from its main plant in Saudi Arabia, the company began its production from their state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Pune only in 2008.
Zamil Steel, a Saudi Arabian based organisation established in 1977 with extensive market reach in the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia and Europe, is recognised as a world leader in steel construction and the largest exporter of pre-engineered steel buildings, with an annual manufacturing capacity of more than 500,000 mt of fabricated steel. Zamil Steel has more than 65,000 PEB buildings that stand in over 90 countries, virtually spanning the globe.
The Pune factory is the latest in the row of six manufacturing facilities worldwide dedicated for PEBs. Zamil Steel’s aspiring expansion into the Indian subcontinent adds to the global number of manufacturing facilities for better serving the Indian market and the neighbouring countries. The Pune facility spans a total area of more than 23 acre with covered area of 27,000 sqm manufacturing plant, which is capable of producing complete PEBs with a production capacity of 60,000 mt per annum.
The facility is already producing and supplying high-end pre-engineered steel buildings to various customers in all over India. Zamil Steel plant in Pune has already supplied more than 830 projects (1,050 buildings) throughout India and Sri Lanka since its operations started in February 2008. Zamil uses the latest building codes, quality standards and software in designing and manufacturing buildings. The latest building codes used are: AISC 2010, AISI 2007, ASCE7 2005, MBMA 2006, IS 800:2007, IS 875, IS 1893; while quality standards are MBMA 2006 / AISC Code of Standard Practice, AWS D1.1 2010; and software ASFAD (In-house), STAAD, eZ-Detailer (In-house), TEKLA Structures, Oracle ERP.
Quality policy
Design and manufacturing facilities follow ISO 9001:2008 procedures. In Zamil Steel, the quality is a continuous process. Our aim is to meet our client’s expectations every time. We take a proactive stance towards quality moving beyond Quality Control to provide Quality Assurance, so you can be confident that your requirements will be met with predictable quality consistently," says Alakesh Roy, Managing Director, Zamil Steel Building India.
Zamil Steel invested heavily in research and development (R&D) of PEB system to update the products and procedures to meet the increasing challenges of the steel construction industry.
Solution for monsoon
The water leak comes from the poor workmanship during the installation process. Thousands of screws are drill down to the roof during the installation of roof sheet. Over torque of the screws is one of the major reasons for the leakage. Zamil Steel’s MaxSEAM brand roof system is an ultimate solution to this problem as it is considered one of the strongest and most weather-tight standing seam roof systems available in the industry today. The 360o seam along the side laps of the panel; the special articulating clip, ArtiFloat; and the carefully engineered system for strength, durability and weather ability are just a few of its outstanding features. The system is "FM Globalö approved, and comes with 15 years leak-proof warranty.
Committed to excellence
Zamil Steel has a strong engineering team compri-sing 600 design and development engineers. The company has invested heavily in product R&D in order to provide innovative products and systems that meet market challenges and demand for flexible and reliable building systems.
