The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Bihar government have agreed in principle on exchanging 13.5 acres of land for expansion of PatnaÂ’s Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport terminal building. AAI will spend Rs 850 crore on the new two-storey building with aerobridges. Work on the new terminal building is expected to commence in July next year. The AAI will provide the required funds and develop the infrastructure as well. The first block of the new terminal building with the capacity to accommodate 15 lakh passengers per annum will be ready by mid-2019.

Patna airport faces a congestion problem. Against the capacity of the existing terminal building to handle 50,000 passengers per annum, the actual passenger traffic stands at 15 lakh per annum.
