Union Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth informed that the government identified 12 coal mining projects with an annual coal production of 36.9 million tonne (mn t) for expeditious clearance within a month.
These projects involve an investment of Rs 1,347 crore. Meanwhile, it may be noted that the Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) streamlined the processes of granting environment and forest clearances for mega projects.
According to an official statement, the CCI in its meeting in February considered the proposal of coal ministry with regard to expediting environment and forest clearances in respect of 12 coal mining projects.
In respect of six coal mines, the committee said the environment clearance is accorded. Further, the committee asked union environment and coal secretaries to co-ordinate and finalise clearances for remaining cases within one month.
