The Union Government is closely monitoring the power projects under construction to avoid delays, said the Union Minister of State (I/C) of Power Jyotiraditya Scindia. Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is performing the duties of monitoring of the power projects in pursuance of 73 (f) of Electricity Act, 2003. In addition, a Power Project Monitoring Panel (PPMP) has been set up by the Ministry of Power to independently follow up and monitor the progress of the hydro/thermal projects and regular reviews are held by the minister. There are delays in execution/construction of power plants in the country due to various reasons such as delay in receiving various inputs/clearances for the project, delay in supply of equipment/materials, shortage of manpower, contractual disputes, law and order problems etc. In addition, hydro power plants are also delayed due to change in design, natural calamities, geological surprises, difficult terrain, etc.
