By the end of 2013, Kerala government would finish tender work for the proposed Kozhikode Monorail project and it would begin construction work from January 2014.
The state Publilc Works Minister VK EbrahimKunju informed this to media persons. He also informed that the first phase of the project would not affect traders in the area.
He said this referring to the protest from the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) who took out a march from Eranjipalam to Civil Station.
The minister assured that the grievances of merchants would be addressed before commencement of the second phase work.
In the first phase of the project, the monorail will have stops at Medical College Hostel, MCH, Chevayoor, Thondayad, Kottooli, Moffusil Bus Stand, KSRTC and Mananchira.
The second phase of the project will cover, Palayam, railway station, Pushpa Junction, Kallayi, Panniyankara, Vattakkinar and Meenchanda.
Recently, the minister for industries PK Kunhalikkutty opened the office for the monorail project at Civil Station.
The office was inaugurated amidst protest from the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) who took out a march from Eranjipalam to Civil Station.
