Within one year, the Union government has a target to set up 10 new software technology parks in the country. The government is also planning to provide marketing support to the companies housed in these tech parks by setting up a dedicated office in the US.
The Union Telecom and IT Minister Kapil Sibal said on November 13 that the government has Software Technology Park of India (STPI) scheme which commits to have 10 technology parks in the country. The first is going to be operative in Punjab very soon.
The Minister added that many of these STPI centres are going to be in remote areas like Tezpur in North East, Darbhanga in Bihar. Sibal said this at a CII event in Delhi. The Indian IT industry in FY’2013 crossed $108 billion aggregate revenue, including export of $76 billion.
