Union Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goyal, presided over the inaugural session of the day-long Workshop on ‘Quality of Coal’ as Chief Guest in New Delhi. The workshop included brainstorming and technical sessions among the stakeholders of the coal and power sectors to bring in greater efficiency and self-sufficiency in the two sectors in India.
During his inaugural address, Goyal encouraged the gathering of stakeholders of the coal and power sectors to work in a mission mode to make India self-reliant in coal reserves, bring in transparency, remove corruption and serve every Indian by ensuring affordable, quality, 24×7 ‘Power for AllÂ’. The Minister said, “I am delighted to see firm determination in everyone in this gathering to achieve the above mission.”
Emphasising on the importance of high quality coal, Goyal said that the country has achieved an important milestone of adequate quantity of coal, now it is a quest for quality and preventing grade slippages. He said that there has been a reduction of about 8 per cent in the per unit coal consumption for power generation, which is a significant achievement in IndiaÂ’s coal history.
