Goyal urges Indian industry to focus on improving quality, productivity

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal has called upon the Indian industry to focus on improving quality and productivity.

Interacting with the office bearers of various industry associations on Tuesday, the minister called upon them to designate a few days next month to brainstorm on these critical aspects so that the country would get recognised as a high-quality efficient manufacturer, trader and service-provider, a Ministry of Commerce & Industry release has said.

Goyal said that this could be done sector-wise or regionally to enable focused knowledge sharing among stakeholders. He said that the results of the second quarter of major companies had shown that profitability of most of them has gone up, indicating that the Indian industry had utilised the COVID-19 period to do the necessary belt-tightening, improve the product-mix and focus on quality and productivity.

Calling upon the industry’s support to implement them in mission-mode, Goyal said that quality and productivity could help in converting the crisis into an opportunity.

Goyal said that the Indian industry had shown resilience and confidence during this difficult time, which had greatly helped the country in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic. He said that the economy was showing strong signals of a revival with the country’s reputation improving by several notches in the international arena to being perceived as a trusted trading partner.

The minister expressed confidence that India would emerge stronger and victorious from the pandemic. He said that the ecosystem would change and India will be able to engage with the world from the position of strength. He asked the gathering of industry leaders to continue to observe the necessary health protocols as any carelessness at this stage could lead to problems.

The minister also assured that the Central Government had taken note of the suggestions of the industry associations and appropriate response would be made after their thorough examination by various departments.

The meeting with the industry associations was in the series of consultations held by the minister with them since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the previous interactions, a lot of suggestions and feedback from the ground level were received that had helped the government in finalising an appropriate response.
