Gujarat government plans to pump in around Rs 141 crore to promote aviation in the state in the next financial year. The amount is more than double of what had been allocated to the sector for the current financial year. The focus will mainly be on developing aviation infrastructure facilities. A senior official from the civil aviation department said that the government wants to strengthen civil aviation network.

Around Rs 50 crore will be earmarked for developing an aircraft hanger at Ahmedabad, developing airstrips and for capital support to new Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) of Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company (GUJSAIL) and Dholera International Airport Company (DIACL), he added. He said that GUJSAIL will focus on development of infrastructure with public private partnership (PPP) at various places other than Ahmedabad.

The official said that with Dholera airport likely to get all central clearances soon, significant activity is expected there in the coming financial year. The government also plans to develop a first of its kind aviation park in the state for which a substantial fund will be allocated. Funds will also be allocated for aviation adventure sports like paragliding, parasailing, skydiving, hot air ballooning, etc.
