Estimates for massive makeover of seven roads in Gurgaon city has been finalised by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and the the work will start in May. The decision to rework the roads was taken after carrying out an onsite survey three months ago.
The roads are Sector 50/ 57, 32/ 38, 47/ 49, 46/ 47, 50/ 51, 50/ 57 and 38/ 39. HUDA had drawn a budget of Rs 11.75 crore for repairs, mainly re-carpeting and widening of the roads. Among the seven roads, on at least three, the HUDA survey had pointed out that heavy volume of traffic has worsened the condition on the texture of these roads. On four roads, HUDA has planned to carry out full-length maintenance work and widening on both sides.
A senior HUDA official said the 9.70-metre road will be expanded to 15 metre. The widening will improve the traffic flow on the road and construction of a central verge has also been planned for better movement of traffic, said sources in HUDA. The road-widening work will be carried out on Sector 50/57 and 50/51 roads which the other roads will see maintenance work.
A timeline for the work has been worked out to ensure minimal inconvenience to traffic and commuters. The work on all roads will start in May and is likely to be completed in a month’s time. To ensure higher monitoring of the road maintenance work, HUDA has also decided to do surprise inspection of the roads and take samples of the material being used by private contractors.
