A telecommunication engineer, Rajiv Sharaf comes with 23 years of experience in the field of telecom, broadcast and IT infrastructure. Sharaf started his career in 1988 as a scientist in the Space Application Center at Ahmedabad during which he got worked on the prestigious In-sat IIB project. The hunger for new challenges, new learning and an aptitude for being part of a larger scheme of things made Sharaf quit his government sector job and join Gujarat Communication Electronics (GCEL). With GCEL, Sharaf got introduced to the telecom and broadcast sector right from the development stage to the installation and commissioning.
In 1995, after announcement of new telecom policy, Sharaf joined Easy Call to establish Radio Paging Network in Gujarat. In 2001, he joined BSES Telecom (now part of RADAG group) and spearheaded the "Always On – Broadband" project which was the first-ever broadband project in India.
In 2003 after Reliance took over BSES, Sharaf was selected amongst five best young leaders and was assigned to be the Project Manager for the project – Parivartan which was aimed at the complete turn around of the company’s Delhi Discom. In Jan2004, he took over as Head of IT infrastructure and networks for Mumbai Discom. His projects received national and international acclaim apart from being ISO 9000 and 27000 certified.
Sharaf was recently elevated to the position of the CIO at Reliance Infrastructure, which requires him to oversee the IT function for the Energy Distribution, Generation, Transmission businesses and the Metro, Roads and Cement businesses.
Sharaf’s belief in hard work, sincerity, value system and positive attitude towards work has helped him come a long way in his career.
