Motorists in Hyderabad will have to cough up more from April 1 for travelling on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). This move is in less than six months after collection of toll tax started on some stretches of the ORR. The toll collection agency PK Hospitality Services is getting ready to increase toll rates from the new financial year ie, April 1, 2013 as the government permitted the agency to increase fee every year.
The ORR stretches Pedda Amberpet-Shamshabad, Narsingi-Patancheru and Gachibowli-Shamshabad were thrown open to public a couple of years ago and toll collection began from September 24, 2012. The contractor has been paying Rs 1.26 crore per month to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Authority (HMDA), which would continue up to March 31, 2014.
HMDA officials said currently 14,000 vehicles were passing through toll plazas at Pedda Amberpet, Bongulur, Raviryal, Thukkuguda, Pedda Golconda, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, APPA, Kokapet, Nanakramguda, Edulanagulapally and Patancheru covering a distance of 86 km.
