IL&FS Group has had a long association with the infrastructure sector specifically in the promotion and development of greenfield projects. The Group´s maritime division IL&FS Maritime Infrastructure Company Ltd (IMICL) is taking forward the Group´s vision in the sector.
Amongst the five berths being currently developed by Dighi Port Ltd (DPL) IMICL has taken the initiative to develop 2 berths, Berth # 4 and 5, with an aggregate capacity of 11 MTPA, on the North bank of Dighi Port in the Rajpuri creek (Agardanda), Raigad District. With a capacity of 5.5 MTPA, berth 4 has adequate capability for handling coal, steel coils, bauxite, fertiliser raw material and other dry bulk commodities. It shall operate on 24×7 basis and with a planned draft of 14.0 meters, will be capable of handling Panamax gearless vessels. IMICL Dighi Berth 4 length is 325 m, width 34.5 m with planned draft of 14.0 m. The backup facilities include a storage yard capacity of 6,00,000 MTs, two mobile harbour cranes of 100 MTs capacity with 30 CBM grabs, hoppers, dust suppression and fire fighting systems, dedicated handling equipment and warehouse. The terminal with its green, efficient and sustainable operations and Terminal Management System is to provide single window service to its customers. IMICL Dighi Berths are connected through SH 92/96 road (44 kms) to NH 17 (Mumbai-Goa Highway) at Indapur. The rail connectivity to the terminal is currently under implementation. The completed project is envisaged to be a game changer in the Western maritime sector.
