Terminal operator DP World has announced concessions to the traders from Bangalore to attract more rail volumes. The company has come out with an incentive of Rs 1,500 for 20 ft containers and Rs 3,000 for 40 ft containers to all customers using the rail service for exim-laden containers from Inland Container Depot (ICD), Whitefield, operated by Container Corporation of India (Concor). Even, Concor has also announced a fixed-day weekly train service from ICD Whitefield to ICTT Vallarpadam, Kochi. Senior DP World officials say that when it comes to using the Kochi port, there are two major issues being faced by the trade in Bangalore – the cost difference with Chennai Port in the rail movement of containers, and the lack of a scheduled train service between Bangalore and Vallarpadam.
