Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) would lay pipeline from Rajpura in Punjab to Chandigarh to transport cooking gas to city homes.

Besides Chandigarh, the pipeline would also be laid across Ambala in Haryana and the piped gas line will cater to Mohali, Panchkula, Baddi, Parwanoo and Nalagarh. The administration will facilitate in execution of the plan to ensure that general public does not face inconvenience during its execution.

Work on the project is set to begin three years after the plan was scrapped. In 2010, a similar project of Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) was stopped after a court ruling.

City gas licences were issued by the board for six cities – Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, Mathura and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Kota in Rajasthan, Dewas in Madhya Pradesh and Sonepat in Haryana.

In the second round, it had invited bids for seven cities -Allahabad, Ghaziabad and Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Rajahmundry and Yanam in Andhra Pradesh.
