IndianOil-Petronas (IPPL), a Joint Venture between IndianOil Corporation and Petronas of Malaysia, unveiled
LPG import-export terminal at Ennore, near Chennai.
The terminal is said to be having an installed capacity of 600,000 tonne per annu and provision has been made to double the capacity. The new terminal would ensure not only increased LPG availability but also avoid its transportation by trucks.
It is learnt that the present bulk LPG requirement in Tamil Nadu is 1.2 million tonne (mn t) per annum, while availability is only 0.4 mn t per annum. The shortfall was met by moving LPG from another terminal in Mangalore.
With the inauguration of the new terminal in Ennore, such transportation could be avoided.
The company aims to sell 5,000 tonne of propane and LPG per month from the Ennore terminal. The terminal will meet the LPG demand of not only Tamil Nadu but also neighbouring Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Currently, IPPL has a state-of-the-art LPG Import Terminal at Haldia in West Bengal. The company now sells about 9,000 tonne of bulk propane and LPG per month from the Haldia terminal.
Meanwhile, the company has planned to expand auto-LPG dispensing stations to 50, hoping to increase sales of about 400 tonne of auto LPG to 2,000 tonne per month.
The company is said to be operating eight stand-alone auto- LPG dispensing Stations in Karnataka, West Bengal and Gujarat.
