Through the new agreement, ISA and IIT Delhi will work together on capacity building, academic programmes, research, and outreach to advance solar talent globally.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), one of India’s premier engineering and research institutions, formalised a framework for action on Friday to deepen collaboration in renewable energy capacity building, academic programmes, and human resource development across ISA member countries. The agreement will support training for renewable energy engineers, Solar Technology Application Centre (STAR‑C) trainers, and research professionals, while promoting joint research, knowledge exchange, and technology cooperation in solar energy.
Signed by Ashish Khanna, Director General of ISA, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, the framework builds on ongoing efforts by IIT Delhi’s Department of Energy Science and Engineering, which has already supported an MTech programme in Renewable Energy Technologies and Management for professionals from 18 developing countries across Africa and the Asia‑Pacific.
Speaking on the occasion, Khanna said, “Leveraging IIT Delhi’s academic network, and in collaboration with Institut National de l’Énergie Solaire (France), this initiative will help establish a global framework for building clean energy capability across ISA member countries. Looking ahead, we are exploring expansion into master’s programmes in public policy and PhD pathways in the solar energy sector, further strengthening the global clean energy talent pipeline.”
Prof. Banerjee added, “This will benefit the Global South and India in building a sustainable pathway to net zero. We will incorporate the latest techniques of AI, ML, and Blockchain to enhance distributed solar and ensure security in future sustainable energy systems.”
Under the agreement, ISA and IIT Delhi will collaborate across four core areas of capacity building and talent development, academic programmes, joint research and knowledge creation, and outreach and knowledge exchange.
