To capture local market share for cement, the Jammu and Kashmir government will set up a cement plant with 1000 tonne per day capacity. The Government on July 31 decided to set up one more 1000 tonne per day cement plant in public sector over 12 hectares at the existing J&K Cements plant at Khrew in Pulwama, an official concerned said.
The decision to this effect was taken at the 97th meeting of the Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Cements presided over by the Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Sajad Ahmad Kichloo.
The new cement plant at Khrew will fill the gap in demand and supply of cement in the local market.
According to preliminary survey, the requirement of cement in the state is about 30 lakh tonne per year, against the installed capacity of about 15 lakh tonne annually with an average growth rate of 10 per cent per annum which clearly indicates that installation of additional cement plant would be a feasible venture, the spokesman said.
