The 36 coal blocks that were put up for sale under the commercial mines auction have received
offers from 59 firms, according to the government’s announcement on Tuesday. These companies
include JSPL, NTPC, and Vedanta. For the coal blocks, 96 bids were made in all.
The coal ministry announced in a statement that “a total of 96 bids were submitted under two
tranches of commercial coal mine auctions.
According to the ministry, this is the biggest bid that has ever been filed since the commercial coal
mines auction was launched in the year 2020. It also stated that “a total of six public sector
enterprises have submitted the bids in the ongoing round of commercial coal mines’ auction.
Of these 32 coal mines, 22 are fully investigated mines and 10 are partially explored blocks.
Other businesses that have filed bids include Ambuja Cements, Jindal Power, JSW Steel, Bharat
Aluminium Company Ltd, JSW Cement, TANGEDCO, and Damodar Valley Corporation.
The coal ministry started the auction process for 141 coal and lignite mines in November 2022.
For all mines, the deadline for submitting a technical offer was January 30.
Technical bids, which included online and offline bid documents, were opened in front of the bidders
as part of the auction procedure.
