Valued at ₹2.15 billion, the order comprises 2,688 motor and 2,688 trailer wheelsets, critical components for India’s semi-high-speed Vande Bharat trains.

Kolkata-based mobility solutions provider Jupiter Wagons Ltd (JWL) has announced that its material unlisted subsidiary, Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Pvt. Ltd (JTRFPL), has received a letter of intent (LOI) for the supply of 5,376 wheelsets for India’s flagship Vande Bharat semi-high-speed train project. Valued at approximately ₹2.15 billion ($25.8 million), the order includes 2,688 motor wheelsets and 2,688 trailer wheelsets.

The supply of these advanced, high-precision wheelsets is expected to play a critical role in enhancing the safety, efficiency, and durability of the Vande Bharat fleet, India’s marquee initiative in modern rail mobility.

“We are thrilled to secure this order for the Vande Bharat project, which stands as a symbol of India’s engineering prowess and modern transportation vision,” said Vivek Lohia, Managing Director, Jupiter Wagons. “The LOI is a strong recognition of our capability in delivering world-class rail components.”

The order further strengthens JWL’s footprint in the rail components segment, spanning passenger, freight, and high-speed rail applications. As part of its long-term capacity-building strategy, the company is setting up a world-class production facility in Odisha, which will scale up manufacturing capacity from the current 20,000 forged wheels and axles annually to 100,000 forged wheelsets per year.

Backed by a planned investment of ₹25 billion ($300 million), the Odisha expansion is expected to be completed by 2027, significantly reducing India’s reliance on imported components and bolstering the domestic manufacturing ecosystem.
