Kandla Port Trust (KPT) was a prominent winner at the prestigious Maritime and Logistics Awards (MALA) 2014, organised by Exim India in Mumbai recently. It was acknowledged as the Major Port of the Year for the fifth consecutive year, chosen from among nominees that included Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Mumbai Port Trust, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) and Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT). Kandla Port retained its No. 1 position among the major ports in 2013-14, handling 87.005 million tonne during the fiscal. In the process, it utilised a whopping 90 per cent of its cargo handling capacity of 96.62 million tonne. Kandla holds an enviable position among the major ports both in terms of tonnage handled, financial stability and self-sufficiency.
