Union Minister Nitin Gadkari´s ambitious plan of developing a smart city around each major port could witness a smart city coming up around Kandla port in a few years´ time. The terms of reference (TOR) is currently under preparation for the potential project, with the areas of Kandla and Gandhidham under the project charter´s ambit. TOR, or project charter, implies laying out the essential structure and purpose of a project and how the goal could be achieved. Each major port will have one dedicated smart city with an expenditure of about Rs 3,000-4,000 crore, the Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping had announced earlier.
