Kandla Port Trust in Gujarat has two dedicated container handling berths currently and the port authority plans to set up another container terminal at Tuna-Tekra at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore.

The proposed terminal, to be located 10 kilometre from Tuna, will have an initial capacity of 1.5 million TEU and will be capable of handling the world’s largest ocean carriers.The port authority is inviting global bids for the container terminal project.

The new terminal, to be developed under a public-private partnership, will be offered on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis, with a 30-year concession available to the operator. The port currently has an annual cargo handling capacity of 7.2 million TEU.

Meanwhile, the port authority is in the process of granting license for operation of two floating cranes in the port water limits.
