Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy asked the union petroleum ministry to fast-track the implementation of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Kochi. Recently, Chandy asked the union oil Minister Veerapa Moily to take proactive steps to realise the CGD project.

In the letter, Chandy ensured his government’s “support including single window clearance for the realisation of the project”.

Both the Kerala government and GAIL India want early implementation of the CGD project in Kochi as it can help clear the doubts among locals regarding the dangers of an ongoing LNG project in the state.

It may be noted that GAIL is laying pipeline for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) distribution in Kerala.

KP Remesh, Deputy General Manager of GAIL informed that the union petroleum minister recently announced that he would take steps to implement CGD project in Bangalore. This is a positive sign for Kochi also. If implemented the project can help clear the doubts regarding the dangers of LNG, he remarked.

The CGD project has been envisaged to distribute natural gas to households to ensure year-long cooking gas supply without any disruption.
