Kerala government has taken up four major road and building projects that would contribute to the development of Kochi city. Work on the projects were scheduled to begin on May 22. This will include the Rs 660-crore Seaport-Airport Road second phase development, four-laning of the present road; construction of the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation Kerala office and shopping mall and the construction of the first concrete road.
The State PWD Minister Ebrahim Kunju said that as part of work on the Seaport-Airport Road, two bridges across the Periyar will be set up at a cost of Rs 48.67 crore. This would help in substantially shortening the travel distance via Aluva to the airport.
Four-laning of a small stretch of 11.3 km at a cost of Rs 25 crore from HMT Junction to Bharat Mata College, Thrikkakara, would prove beneficial to the development of Infopark and the proposed SmartCity, Kunju said. The Rs 45-crore, seven-storeyed office of the RBDCK which is due to come up near the collectorate, will include a shopping mall.
Taking into account the rising number of vehicles and the need to have better roads, the PWD was initiating the stateÂ’s first model concrete road from HMT Junction to Manalimukku at a cost of Rs 21 crore as a pilot project, he added.
