Kerala to scale up solar and wind power in Idukki

According to the Governor’s policy address to the State Assembly, the Kerala Government intends to significantly increase solar and wind power development in Palakkad and Idukki districts. The Governor stated “The aim is to produce at least 3000 MW of renewable power by 2025 through the implementation of floating solar power plants and wind farms in Palakkad and Idukki.”

It was noted that the State Government will establish guidelines for the development of environmentally friendly energy sources like floating solar power plants in abandoned water-filled quarries, water bodies, and degraded barren land. According to the policy address, the government intends to add 100 MW to the Cheemeny solar park in Kasaragod.

The state governments plan to seek central assistance for multi-task hydel projects that will also serve as flood control dams were reiterated in the policy address.
