In order to clear the backlog of cargo at Haldia Dock Complex (HDC), Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) may approach Tata Martrade International Logistics (TMIL) to use their mobile harbour crane.
TMIL’s service may be used at berth number 12 to berth number 13 also where the cargo for Haldia Bulk Terminals (HBT) terminals would be diverted, reports suggest.
Cargo operations at berth numbers 2 and 8 of HDC is affected because of the sudden exit of ABG Haldia Bulk Terminals (HBT) from the long-term cargo handling contract with the port.
Meanwhile, the port authority is in the process of selecting another contractor to replace ABG Haldia Bulk Terminals and it expects a new firm to take charge of the berths by March next year.
After the exit, the port initiated the process of blacklisting HBT and also encashing a performance guarantee of Rs 4 crore by the firm.
