The quality of construction work on dividers and footpaths on the Sector 53-56 road needs stricter monitoring, said residents. The HUDA engineering wing is constructing a footpath on both sides of the road. From the beginning of the work at site the residents of the adjoining sectors have claimed that the quality of the work is going unmonitored.
After repeated complaints of the residents, HUDA decided to construct footpath and central verge on the road. A private contractor has been awarded the contract to complete work within this month. There is no monitoring of the construction at the site and no HUDA officials is looking at the quality of constriction material being used there.
For construction of footpath, compaction of the base surface and fitting of tiles is the most crucial. A senior HUDA official said that there is a fixed parameter for constructing footpath and the contractor is following that. If there is any discrepancy in that then action will be taken against him.
The residents, however, pointed out that the HUDA must carry out surprise check for quality of construction material in all the sites where road repair and widening works are being undertaken. After mulling over three months the HUDA has zeroed down on carrying out repairs on seven roads in different sectors where the work of re-carpeting and central verge construction would be done in next three months.
The work could not started in winters because low temperature does not help in ensuring high quality surface, said an HUDA official. The estimates of over Rs 11.75 crore have been cleared for the seven roads in Sector 50/57, 32/38, 47/49, 46/47, 50/51, 50/57 and 38/39. The road widening work will result in more road space for vehicles and ease off traffic flow during rush hours.
