The Centre has been urged to allocate additional gas to run power projects in Andhra Pradesh more efficiently and at higher plant load factor. Harsha Kumar GV Member of Parliament, in a memorandum to the Prime Minister sought higher allocation of natural gas to Andhra Pradesh-based power projects.
The MP contended that they were starved of natural gas supplies resulting in power cuts to consumers in the state. In spite of ONGC, GAIL, Oil India, Reliance, GSPC and Cairn India operating their facilities on AP coast, the supply is far below the required level, he wrote in the memorandum.
He said that AP is reeling under power cuts going up to 40 per cent. Better supply of natural gas will help generate additional power in the State. He contended that the Andhra Pradesh gas allocation is lower when compared with the west coast.
