The Empowered Committee of the Ministry of Power for deveÂlopÂment of inter-state tranÂsmission lines has recommÂended setting up of five new transmission lines with an estimated length of 2,600 km through tariff-basÂed competiÂtive bidding with private sector participation. These lines will help in evaÂcuation of power from the proÂpÂosed coaÂstal genÂeration projects in Nagapattanam/Cuddalore areÂas of Tamil Nadu and gas-based generation projects in Vemagiri/ Rajamundry areas in Andhra Pradesh will cost about Rs 6,485 crore. A number of transmissionprojects in diffÂerent regions had earlier been awarded to successful private bidders.
