By August 8, Goa government has been asked to submit details on the extent of mining dumps in and outside lease areas in the state to the national green tribunal (NGT).
At a recent hearing, the tribunal received an assurance from the state government counsel that a complete report about the dumps will be filed and that it will be a common one for all the mine operators named as respondents.
For failing to compile a report on the mining dumps, the tribunal, at an earlier hearing, ordered the arrest of Goa’s principal secretary, environment and forest, RK Verma (now transferred).
It may be noted that NGT sought a report on dumps in connection with a case filed by Goa paryavaran savrakshan sangharsh samiti against HL Nathurmal, Praful Hede and others.
At the recent hearing, director of mines Prasanna Acharya and another official appeared before the tribunal, as directed by the tribunal to depute an officer to attend the hearing with the relevant file on July 16.
Following this, the tribunal withheld its earlier arrest order.
The final hearing is scheduled for August 21.
